Santa Clara-Advanced Analogic Technologies, Inc. ( Analogic TechTM ) is an analog semiconductor company focused on providing innovative energy solutions for the consumer, industrial and communications markets. The ultra-compact switching converters of its integrated micro-inductor converter series introduced today are up to 95% energy efficient and designed to be as simple as low dropout (LDO) regulators. Analogic Tech's family of integrated micro-inductor converters offers a variety of easy-to-use buck converters for demanding space-constrained equipment, including consumer products such as Bluetooth headsets, solid state drives, industrial point and point-of-load regulators for portable medical devices.

Products introduced today include the AAT6101 micro-inductive switching buck converter with output current up to 400mA and the AAT6102 micro-inductive switching buck converter with output current up to 600mA. Both have input voltages from 2.7V to 5.5V, both support adjustable output voltages from 0.6V to VIN, and are ultra-compact switching converter solutions with integrated micro-inductors. The integrated solution in the 2.4mm x 2.4mm x 0.9mm package is only half the area of the switch substrate with independent inductors. Each microinductive switching solution requires only two feedback resistors and two capacitors. The next AAT6103 product in the series that supports up to 1A of output current will be available in the first quarter of 2011.

"According to the convention, system designers have to sacrifice size for energy efficiency," said Roger Smullen, product marketing manager at AnalogicTech. "Our micro-inductor switching converters offer system designers a solution that is extremely small, efficient and easy to use. Make these products a green alternative to inefficient LDOs."

The AAT610X micro-inductor switching converter provides a single-step design that allows the user to select only feedback resistors without additional programming or design regulations to set the output voltage. This eliminates the complex problem of deciding which inductor to use for the switching converter. In addition, the micro-inductive switching converter has up to 95% energy efficiency, 37μA no-load quiescent current, less than 1μA shutdown current and low noise light load mode.

"Today's electronic equipment has a wide range of energy management requirements," Smullen continued. "In addition to the micro-inductive switching converter series, we also offer a comprehensive DC--DC converter combination, from low cost. From low-dropout converters to energy-efficient switches to today's ultra-simplified, energy-efficient switches, we can deliver a wide range of high-performance energy management solutions that enable our customers to implement the best options for cost, size and energy efficiency."
