Summary:

The demo board 1362A-A/1362A-B is based on the 4A high voltage Li-ion charging device LT®3651EUHE-4.2/LT3651EUHE-4.1.

The LT3651 is a single 4A Li-Ion/Li-Polymer battery charger that operates from an input voltage range of 4.8V to 32V. An efficient monolithic average current mode synchronous switching regulator provides constant current, constant voltage charging and programmable maximum charging current. A charge cycle is initiated when a battery is inserted or the battery voltage drops below 2.5% of the float voltage. The charger termination mode can select the charging current or the internal safety timer timeout. When the charge current drops to 1/10 (C/10) of the programmed maximum current, the charge current will terminate the charge operation. The timer-based charge termination mode is normally set to 3 hours and can be set by the user (the charge current is continuously charged below C/10 until timeout). Once the charging operation is terminated, the LT3651 will enter a standby mode (when the supply current drops to 85μA).

The LT3651 offers a variety of security features. The discharge battery can be pre-verified with a small trickle charge, and an indication signal will be sent if the battery does not respond to the pre-check. A thermistor monitors the battery temperature and suspends charging when the battery temperature is outside the specified range. When the chip temperature is too high, the charging current will decrease. In addition, when it is necessary to maintain a constant input current to prevent the input load from being excessively large, the charging current will also decrease. The LT3651 is available in a 5mm x 6mm 36-pin QFN package.
