Opera browser downloads tripled after Microsoft developed the market
On March 4, according to foreign media reports, Opera Software said on Wednesday that after Microsoft began to make it easier for Europeans to choose smaller competitor browsers, Opera browser downloads increased significantly.
Opera Chief Strategy Officer Rolf Assev said that since the browser selection screen launched, Opera ’s downloads have tripled in major European countries such as Belgium, France, Spain, Poland and the United Kingdom.
Opera this week launched a new version of the browser. This will help to benefit from Microsoft's opening up of this market.
After posting this comment, Opera's stock reversed its downward trend. At 14:44 GMT, Opera's stock price rose 3.2%, and the transaction price was 19.50 kronor.
On December 16, last year, the European Union's administration accepted Microsoft's guarantee to provide European consumers with better access to competitors' browsers in Windows, ending the long-term antitrust dispute between the EU and Microsoft.
Starting this week, Microsoft provides European users with a choice of 12 browsers, including Microsoft's own IE browser, Mozilla's Firefox browser, Apple's Safari and Google's Chrome. Opera is one of the five most popular browsers and will first appear on the selection screen of Microsoft's browser.
