Philips pushes authorized new plan to push LED and SSL patent portfolio

Since the history of the industry, such as Ford, Myles, Shanghai Qiyi, Lake, and other brands have fallen into "patent disputes", LED patents have increasingly attracted industry attention. As one of the world's most cutting-edge LED lighting technology companies with the most patented technologies, Philips launched the "LED Licensing Program."

According to statistics, more than 230 companies around the world have signed Philips' licensing plan for the LED and SSL patent portfolio. Philips provides a very broad portfolio of LED and SSL patented products through a licensing program based on "LED lighting and retrofit bulbs".

As early as May 2012, Philips signed the 200th licensee, and now this number has exceeded 230. Companies that have signed the plan include Osram, ZumtobEL, Vision, Cree, TRILUX and Cooper. Of course, the public cannot see the details of the negotiations to sign the license, but at least two of the companies contacted by Philips refused to join the plan. Earlier this year, Philips sued Nexxus Lighting for patent infringement. Recently, another lighting manufacturer, TCP, has filed a lawsuit trying to refuse to join the program.

According to the Nexxus press release, the Philips lawsuit was closed at the end of September 2012, and Nexxus joined the Philips licensing program. According to Nexxus, the patent license allows it to “continue to manufacture and sell LED lighting products, including (its) array brand of LED replacement bulbs.” Nexxus said that “Philips’ license fee will also be paid in full at one time to resolve Sales dispute. "This lawsuit is interesting because it clearly marked for the first time that Philips had persuaded other companies to join its plan by resorting to law.
