Recent developments and application prospects of high-power LED technology

Many countries and regions around the world, many of the many cities are abandoning traditional lighting through regulations or other means, and switching to new technologies, such as high-power LEDs (light-emitting diodes) for traffic, street lights and other public lighting. For example, EU countries, Japan, Australia, Brazil and Canada will strictly prohibit the use of incandescent bulbs by 2012. Designers of medical devices, signage, consumer electronics, home appliances, upholstery, security and other lighting appliances are increasingly using high-power (1 watt or higher) LED technology when developing new products.

What is the reason for the sensational high-power LED? Why is the LED market forecasting significant growth in 2009 despite the economic challenges? There are two answers: Today's high-power LEDs not only improve efficiency, but also provide better lighting.

Improve energy efficiency

High-power LEDs are extremely energy efficient, and LEDs emit higher brightness per watt than other technologies. For example, ordinary high-power LEDs can provide 80 lumens per watt, while energy-saving lamps (CFLs) can provide 70 lumens per watt, and ordinary incandescent lamps can only provide 15 lumens per watt.

Special high power LEDs consume between 1W and 10W. Compared to 40W low-power household bulbs and 60W ordinary incandescent lamps, its energy consumption is quite low. In some cases, the energy consumption of a 60W incandescent lamp is equivalent to the power consumption of a 15 watt energy-saving lamp (CFL), while the energy consumption of an energy-saving lamp is closer to that of a high-power LED. However, another important win for high-power LEDs is the absence of mercury. Energy-saving lamps contain a small amount of mercury, and today, all countries and cities around the world are restricting the use of mercury-containing lamps. Usually when energy-saving lamps and LEDs can meet energy-saving requirements, only LEDs can meet the requirements of no harmful substances at the same time.

High power LEDs can also increase efficiency in many other areas. The life of high-power LEDs is 10 to 15 times longer than traditional incandescent lamps and 3 to 10 times longer than energy-saving lamps. In fact, the durability of LED technology not only saves lighting maintenance costs, but also reduces waste. LED lights have high efficiency characteristics. LED lights are directional and therefore more targeted, and LED lights are more efficient than traditional 180° astigmatism lighting.

Better lighting

Advanced technology, especially in the past three years, has greatly improved the quality of high-power LED brightness. The intensity of color development is from 1 to 100, and 100 is exactly the same as the sunlight in the visual spectrum. When the color rendering index (CRI) drops below 80, the color seen under this light will be inconsistent with the true color of the thing. Good color rendering indexes are usually above 90. Many energy-saving bulbs have a color rendering index between 75 and 90, and incandescent lamps have an index of 100. The index of LEDs now reaches 90 or above. Due to recent advances in technology, the color rendering index of both white and color high power LEDs is high.

The white chips of the early white LEDs were covered with a layer of phosphor. Until a few years ago, this combination was able to get enough "cold" white light, usually on the jobsite and on the road. However, white LEDs do not provide "warm" white light for household lighting such as lamps in the kitchen. The improvement of phosphor coat technology and the lessons of many products have led us to create an automatic system that automatically distinguishes between cold and warm light for white LED lights by different radiation frequencies. In the past, the choice of LEDs was limited to "white" or "non-white". Some manufacturers can now subdivide the white "hue" into 50 different categories.

Recent improvements in the three primary color (RGB) LEDs have significantly improved white and color LED subtitles. Red, green and blue (RGB) LEDs package red, green and blue chips together to emit different colors of light. In the past, the color mixing light emitted by RGB LEDs was very unstable, and high-power LED drivers successfully solved this technical problem. Recently, high-power RGB LEDs, such as Luster's AstraLED, make white and colored light very stable and soft.

LEDs are more flexible than other lighting. The LED system is compact and can be used in conjunction with sensors, other lighting controllers such as dimmers, daylight controllers and dynamic light conditioners.

Conclusion

High-power LED market has high efficiency and good light quality. The significant advantages and good performance of high-power LEDs save money make it a choice for more and more people. Nowadays, in many homes and offices, we can see people using high-power LED technology. In the future, people will also apply high-power LEDs to sensor technology to achieve automatic opening. The other is the field of infrared LED technology, when the night vision system will be greatly improved.
