The US Alpex Export Company and India Spire signed a contract at the end of April 2008 to build a photovoltaic module assembly line in New Delhi, India. This will be Spire's first solar PV module production plant, which will support the growth of demand for solar PV modules in India and the development of the Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) market.
Under the agreement, Alpex Exports will supply Spire with a semi-automated crystalline silicon module production line that will produce 15MW/year solar PV modules. The size of the Indian solar market is expected to more than double by 2010.
