SuperData: PSVR sold 375,000 units in 2017 Q1

For Sony, PlayStation VR has proven itself to be a huge success. The device sold more than 700,000 in 2016, and in the first quarter of 2017 it was more than 1 million. According to a report published by SuperData, a market research organization, PS VR sold 375,000 units in Q1 2017.

Although PSVR sales in the first quarter of 2017 were much lower than the fourth quarter of 2016, this is still a very impressive figure and higher than other competitors such as Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. SuperData expects the PSVR to achieve good results this year. They believe that even if Sony does not put too much effort in promoting marketing, PSVR sales in 2017 will exceed 2.6 million.

Stephanie Llamas, head of SuperData VR/AR, said: "Sony has been claiming that PSVR is more about VR than games. Although not the obvious first choice, they are working with other companies. Develop business applications. PlayStation is an important part of the entertainment ecosystem to bring home, not just the gaming experience. Sony will also take the same route to the PSVR."
