For motion systems that require precise control over long distances, designers face the challenge of ensuring faster data rates and higher reliability over long cables. For example, low-speed devices cannot meet demand because the production site must transmit data quickly and accurately over longer distances.
The MAX22500E/MAX22501E (half-duplex) and MAX22502E (full-duplex) RS-485/RS-422 transceivers with high ESD protection can support communication rates up to 100Mbps at 50m distance. While providing the industry's fastest data rate, it achieves high-precision, high-performance, and reliable communication of long cables, and supports high-speed transmission applications such as motion control. Compared to competing solutions, the MAX22500E and MAX22502E's adjustable pre-emphasis feature doubles the data rate, increasing encoder resolution and reducing latency. Pre-emphasis extends the cable transmission distance by 50% for longer distance communication. Larger receiver hysteresis (250mV) provides excellent reliability for EFT. In addition, by improving signal integrity and reliability, system designers are allowed to achieve the same level of performance with lower cost cables. The transceiver operates over the -40°C to +125°C temperature range.
