Global policies boost global smart meter shipments surge

Core Tip : The business opportunities in the smart meter market are gradually expanding. In order to achieve energy-saving and carbon-reduction smart grids, governments of all countries are fully investing in the construction of smart meters, which in turn drives the growth of smart meter shipments year by year, and encourages the revenue growth of related component suppliers.

At present, all countries in the world are committed to the development of smart grid infrastructure for the safety, quality and economy of electricity use. An important part of the successful operation of the smart grid lies in the need for complete and real-time collection of power consumption information of various power users. Therefore, the advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), which is an intermediary role at both ends of power supply and consumption, has become a smooth development of the smart grid. The key equipment; and to complete the basic construction of AMI deployment, smart meters must first be installed, so it also urges countries around the world to give priority to smart meter construction.

Supporting the smart grid market in different countries

As shown in Figure 1, the AMI includes a smart meter, a data concentrator, an analysis application system, and a communication network connecting all hardware and software devices from the front end to the back end. Among them, smart meters are composed of metering modules, control modules and communication modules. The most important component is the microcontroller (MCU). Smart meters can be roughly divided into two categories: low-voltage single-phase (Figure 2) and high-voltage three-phase. Single-phase smart meters are mainly used by ordinary households; while three-phase smart meters are mainly commercial. Smart meters currently have various specifications, including ANSI C12 in the United States, IEC 6205x in IEC, EN 50470-X in the European Union, AS 1284.x in Australia, and Q / GDW37x, etc., set by mainland China.

As for the concentrator, it refers to the central management equipment and control equipment of the remote centralized meter reading system, and is the central node of network transmission. Function; communication network is divided into public or private wide area network, regional network, etc., such as ZigBee, power line communication (PLC), overall packet radio service (GPRS), asymmetric digital subscriber loop (ADSL) and other communication technologies; analytical applications The system refers to the Meter Data Management System (MDMS), which can integrate, analyze and manage the obtained power information, and provide the analyzed data to power companies, consumers and third-party units to Apply and add value. For example, integration with back-end power company ERP related application software to improve the efficiency of power management and customer service quality.
